Getting Started with Electron Microscopy Characterization

For new users at DTU Nanolab - Characterization facilities, we have a process to request access to the Electron Microscopy Facilities B314/307/313.

Have a look on our homepage www.nanolab.dtu.dk/access which describes to possibilities. Additionally, we describe here briefly the steps you need to take.

If you face any issues, you are always welcome to contact us at microscopysupport@nanolab.dtu.dk.

Register

Go to www.nanolab.dtu.dk/access/characterization/electron-microscopy-equipment and send an access request.

  • Registration in DTU Nanolabs administration system LabManager (name, project number, supervisor)
  • Select equipment to be trained on
  • Select user type (internal DTU, external DTU, academic collaboration or commercial work)
  • Describe your samples and what you want to learn about it

⇒ Our equipment responsible will get back to you to discuss your request further and arrange training

Lab-introduction course

After meeting with the equipment responsible, follow the link in the access request autoreply email to DTU Learn and go through the Lab-Introduction course "DTU Nanolab - Introduction course for Nanolab facilitiy (NOT Cleanroom in B346)" (the course describes what steps you need to take)

  • Click on the icon "Content" at the top and go through all information in the module Mandatory study material and quiz
  • Finish the module by passing the quizzes Lab-intro test and Access agreement under Quiz mandatory
  • After successfully finishing Quiz mandatory, go to the module After completing the mandatory study material and quiz and select Building B314/B307/B313 and General access to B314/B307/B313 in the Follow-up course checklist
  • Go the the information in the module Access to building B314/B307/B313 and pass the quiz Quiz access B314/B307 under Overall Risk Assessment
  • If access to a specific lab is required, select the work environment in the Follow-up course checklist under Final
  • Go through these information as well

After successfully finishing a module, you acquire a competence in LabManager which grants access to the equipment training and access to the labs. You can check these competence yourself. Some lab access requires an additional in-person introduction.

Access on your DTU access card will be updated within a few days and can be checked in PACE (cardadmin.cas.dtu.dk/).
