Getting Started with Electron Microscopy Characterization
For new users at DTU Nanolab - Characterization facilities, we have a process to request access to the Electron Microscopy Facilities B314/307/313.
Have a look on our homepage www.nanolab.dtu.dk/access which describes to possibilities. Additionally, we describe here briefly the steps you need to take.
If you face any issues, you are always welcome to contact us at microscopysupport@nanolab.dtu.dk.
Register
Go to www.nanolab.dtu.dk/access/characterization/electron-microscopy-equipment and send an access request.
- Registration in DTU Nanolabs administration system LabManager (name, project number, supervisor)
- Select equipment to be trained on
- Select user type (internal DTU, external DTU, academic collaboration or commercial work)
- Describe your samples and what you want to learn about it
⇒ Our equipment responsible will get back to you to discuss your request further and arrange training
Lab-introduction course
After meeting with the equipment responsible, follow the link in the access request autoreply email to DTU Learn and go through the Lab-Introduction course "DTU Nanolab - Introduction course for Nanolab facilitiy (NOT Cleanroom in B346)" (the course describes what steps you need to take)
- Click on the icon "Content" at the top and go through all information in the module Mandatory study material and quiz
- Finish the module by passing the quizzes Lab-intro test and Access agreement under Quiz mandatory
- After successfully finishing Quiz mandatory, go to the module After completing the mandatory study material and quiz and select Building B314/B307/B313 and General access to B314/B307/B313 in the Follow-up course checklist
- Go the the information in the module Access to building B314/B307/B313 and pass the quiz Quiz access B314/B307 under Overall Risk Assessment
- If access to a specific lab is required, select the work environment in the Follow-up course checklist under Final
- Go through these information as well
After successfully finishing a module, you acquire a competence in LabManager which grants access to the equipment training. You can check these competence yourself.
Equipment training
Access
- Access to relevant Safety Training
- Log-in data to DTU Learn and labmanger.dtu.dk
- Access card (DTU personel receives access on their personal DTU cards, external users will receive a DTU access card from DTU Nanolabs administration (building 347))
- Complete Safety training
- Online Introductory Course (on DTU Learn)
(incl Introduction to LabAdviser and LabManager) - Safety hands-on training, if required
- Online Introductory Course (on DTU Learn)
- Create your Fabrication Process
- Choose Substrate
- Define Process Flow
- Verify that Cross Contamination is not an issue in your process
- Optional: Process Flow review by Fabrication Support
- Equiment Training
- Online and Group Hands-on training Tool Package Training (TPT), if required
- Request hands-on training at training@nanolab.dtu.dk
- Provide information relevant to your training: Sample (material, size), contamination from previous processes, process and parameters for equipment training
- Attach your process flow to the request (if possible)
- Read manuals
- Print and laminate your process flow
- Have substrates ready (or request assistance for purchase)
- Equipment Booking
- Book equipment at labmanager.dtu.dk, if authorized
- Equipment booking for training sessions is commonly booked by the trainer
- Run the Process Flow
Please note that almost all machines at DTU Nanolab are equipped with a labmanager lock. More information on how to use LabManager and how the LabManager Lock (LM-lock) works can be found here or in the DTU Learn introductory course.
