Plasma cleaner & Pumping Station

Fischione Plasma Cleaner model 1020

The Plasma Cleaner automatically and quickly removes organic contamination (hydrocarbon) from electron microscopy specimens and specimen holders. A low energy, reactive gas plasma cleans without changing the specimen’s elemental composition or structural characteristics. The Plasma Cleaner features easy-to-use front panel controls and an oil-free vacuum system for optimal processing.

Pumping Cube for single TEM specimen holder

This pumping cube is mainly used to check vacuum tightness of home made TEM holders. It is running a turbo pump, which can evacuate the chamber down to about 10-7 mbar. The pressure is measured by a wide-range gauge and recorded in a Labview program.

Location Building 307, behind Room 111 (T12 TEM)

Gatan Turbo Pumping Station model 655

Capacity: 4 specimen holders. The turbo pumping station is a completely self-contained, compact, benchtop pumping station designed to regenerate the sorb material in cooling and cryo-transfer holder dewars and for vacuum storage of transmission electron microscope (TEM) holders or samples.

REMEMBER: When removing a holder, all other holder tubes are vented as well. Check, if one of the cryo-holder dewars is connected for pumping and running a pumping cycle (zeolite cycle). If this is the case, don't remove a holder. Get in contact with the cryo-holder user. There should be a note at the pumping station. When the zeolite cycle is finished, close the valves to the dewar before removing a holder.
