How to export data generated by Avantage to CasaXPS

CasaXPS cannot read the *.vgd files that are generated by Avantage when a spectrum is recorded. All data from Avantage that you wish to analyze using CasaXPS must therefore be manually exported from Avantage. Below is a procedure on how to do this.

  1. You have to run the file called DataSpace_BatchDump.exe that is a part of the Avantage installation. This means that you can run it on the K-Alpha, the Nexsa or your own computer (provided that Avantage is installed on your own PC). On the K-Alpha and Nexsa computers a shortcut labelled 'Export data to CasaXPS' has been put on the desktop
. Depending on the Windows installation the file should be in the folder
    1. C:\Program Files\Thermo\Avantage\Bin\ or
    2. C:\Program Files (86)\Thermo\Avantage\Bin\
  2. Running DataSpace_BatchDump.exe will open a panel requesting the location of the data as seen below left. Navigate to your experiment and choose the folder with the *.vgd files as seen below right. The export function will be able to export multilevel data such as depth profiles etc.
  3. If you want the converted data to be restored in a different location, you can choose a destination folder.
  4. Press OK and tick yes to create directory structure.
  5. All *.vgd files in the data folder will be converted to *.avg files.
  6. Open CasaXPS and select 'File\Convert and Merge...'
  7. Locate the folder containing the *.avg files, select them and press Open.
  8. Press Yes to transfer row labels and CasaXPS will generate the *.vms files as seen below.
  9. The conversion of Avantage data to vamas files that are readable by CasaXPS is complete.
