What is an organization in LabManager?

An organization is the collection of projects in LabManager and an organization can be an institute, a company or part of a company. Each month a specification of the registrations of the projects is sent to the organization in one Excel file.

What is a project in LabManager?

When registrations of work is registrered in LabManager, the registrations must have a valid project. Projects are created by the administration of DTU Nanolab or rather by project/organization administrators from the organizations of the users.

Each user must select the project they are working on by selecting it to the right of the menu bar. Remember to click 'Change' after reselection.

For DTU institutes we aim to name projects that resemble the names and 5-digit numbers of DTU-projects. However, this is for the institute to decide.

How does membership of projects and organizations work?

Users can be connected to - also called member of - organizations and projects. Projects can be set up so it has its own membership or it can inherit membership from the organization. The administration of DTU Nanolab or rather project/organization administrators can connect and remove users from organizations and projects.

In an organization where users work on very different projects, the smart choice will be to have memberships for each project. On the other hand, in an organization where users work on similar or the same projects it makes more sense to connect users to the organization and let the underlying projects inherit that membership from the organization.
